Product Features
- 1. 2-Stage Filtration System: The Bio Sponge Filter clears water and maintains tank health via mechanical filtration (fine sponge catches waste) and biological filtration (bio balls host beneficial bacteria).
- 2. Fish-Safe Design: The seamless sponge filter prevents fish from being sucked up, ideal for shrimp, quarantine, and fry tanks due to its lack of moving parts.
- 3. Aeration & Filtration: This fish tank filter cleans water and aerates it with bubbles, creating a slow-flowing environment suitable for bettas and fry fish.
- 4. Air Pump-Driven Filter: This sponge filter requires a minimum 2W air pump and airline (sold separately) to operate. The plastic chamber allows for easy access to the filter media for maintenance or replacement.
- 5. Suitable for Various Tank Sizes: The Size S measures 1.8″ W x 5.4″ H and is recommended for tanks of 2-5 gallons. The Size L measures 3″ W x 7.3″ H and is suitable for tanks of 6-20 gallons. Both sizes can be used in fresh and saltwater aquariums.
A Dual-Stage Filtration Solution for Small Fish Tanks:
The hygger Internal Filter is designed to provide a dual-stage filtration process for small fish tanks, ensuring water clarity and a healthy environment. The system combines mechanical filtration, which captures fish waste and fine debris, with a fine sponge and biological filtration, where bio balls offer ample surface area for beneficial bacterial colonies to thrive.
Fish-Safe Design:
This internal fish tank filter features a seamless, fish-safe design without any moving parts, safeguarding small fish from being sucked into the filter. It is designed to prevent the loss of tiny fry and maintain a gentle water flow, which is ideal for delicate invertebrates, including fry fish, betta, guppy, shrimp, and tetras. The gentle operation of the biofilter makes it perfect for shrimp tanks, quarantine tanks, or fry tanks, ensuring the well-being of sensitive aquatic life.
Oxygen-Enriching Filtration:
The hygger Internal Filter is an excellent choice for small aquariums. It maintains water cleanliness and promotes oxygenation through bubble aeration. The gentle water movement it creates is ideal for fish species that prefer slow-flowing water, such as betta and guppy fry.
Easy Maintenance Design:
This low-maintenance filter allows for easy upkeep. You can replace the sponge with any standard-sized sponge that fits; cleaning the bio balls is required only every two months. For long-term maintenance, partial replacement of bio balls is recommended every six months, with only a third being replaced at one time to maintain a balanced bacterial colony.
Air Pump Compatibility:
Like other sponge filters, the Hygger Internal Filter operates with an air pump (2w or higher) and airline tubing, which are not included with the filter. The filter’s convenient plastic chamber design provides quick and easy access for filter media maintenance or replacement, making it a user-friendly option.

Usage Tips
1. Before using the hygger Internal Filter, it’s essential to rinse the ceramic balls thoroughly. To maintain the stability of your aquarium’s ecosystem, use water from the aquarium itself rather than tap water for rinsing.
2. Bio Ball Specifications: The diameter of the bio balls is 1.8 cm. When it’s time to replace them, you can use the same size or smaller bio balls to ensure they fit properly within the filter and continue providing the necessary surface area for beneficial bacteria.
I really like this filter. I need something easy, something with good filtration but less flow. It is also easy to access the filter sponge from the bottom.
